The work most people associate with cosmetic surgery happens in the operating room. Windshell Joseph's work starts the day after. She is a certified lymphatic massage therapist, and her patients show up to her table with fresh incisions, swelling, fluid that needs somewhere to go, and the kind of mental load that comes from putting yourself under general anesthesia and trusting the outcome. Her job is to help them recover well. The surgery is the headline. What she does is the part that decides how the body actually heals.
Who She Is
Windshell Joseph is the founder of Gentletouch Lymphatic Therapy in Miami, Florida. She specializes in post-operative lymphatic drainage for patients recovering from breast reduction, breast augmentation, liposuction, mommy makeovers, tummy tucks, and Brazilian butt lifts. She works with patients from day one post-op, when the body is at its most vulnerable and the difference between a good recovery and a hard one is often measured in how well the lymphatic system is supported. The role she plays in that window is closer to clinical than cosmetic. She is the person between the surgical suite and the rest of someone's healing.
The Work
A typical day looks like a sequence of clients, each at a different stage of recovery, each with a slightly different plan. Some are 24 hours out. Some are weeks in. The work is hands-on, deliberate, and informed by an understanding of what surgeons want a recovering body to do and what patients need to feel safe while it happens. She does not approach lymphatic massage as a spa treatment. She approaches it as therapy. There is a real distinction between a general massage therapist and a certified lymphatic therapist, and she is direct about why it matters. The training is different, the certification is different, the work is different, and the surgeons who refer to her know it.
How It Started
It started in 2020 with a friend. The friend was scheduled for surgery and needed a certified lymphatic therapist for recovery. There were almost none to find. The cosmetic surgery industry was growing quickly, but the support infrastructure around it had not caught up. Windshell saw the gap. She also saw the people in it: patients showing up to recovery without anyone qualified to actually help them recover. She went back to school, earned her lymphatic certification, and started building. What began as a workaround for one friend turned into a practice serving a category of patient that had been quietly underserved.
What She Believes
The most common pushback she encounters is from patients who do not realize they need post-op lymphatic therapy. They think the surgery itself is the end of the work. It is not. The body has to clear inflammation, drain fluid, and reduce swelling, and the way it does that meaningfully shapes the final result patients paid for. Most of the time, those patients change their minds the moment they see what consistent lymphatic therapy does for another patient's outcome. The results speak before any sales conversation does.
Faith and Purpose
Faith shows up in her work every day. She has been through her own physical recovery, and she remembers what it felt like to be the person on the table. She treats her patients with care, with empathy, and with the understanding that going into surgery requires real willpower, and that recovery requires real support. She believes in treating people the way she would want to be treated, and she carries that into every appointment.
What Is Next
The vision she has held since day one is her own office. She wants Gentletouch Lymphatic Therapy to operate out of a space that is fully hers, designed for the work, and big enough to serve the patient base she has built. That is the goal she is moving toward, deliberately, one client at a time.
Windshell Joseph started Gentletouch because the recovery side of cosmetic surgery was missing a certified therapist who actually understood what the patient needed. Six years in, she is that person for a growing list of patients in Miami.
