An error message can say the word error, not just turn a box red. When you add a second cue, the color still helps the people who see it, and no one else is left behind.
This is a clear case of what inclusive design means. You build the thing so it works for the widest range of people from the start, instead of adding fixes later. A design that works for a color blind user is usually clearer for everyone. Labels and shapes help people glancing at a screen in bright sun, or reading a printout in black and white. The extra effort is small, and the payoff reaches far past the group you had in mind. That is the pattern good design keeps showing. Building for the edge makes the middle better too.

You can print a chart in black and white and ask if it still makes sense. You can hand a design to someone and ask them to read it without relying on color at all. If the meaning falls apart, you have found a gap worth closing. These checks take only minutes, and they save other people from quiet frustration. Big companies have slowly started to catch on. Some map apps now let you switch to a color blind friendly palette with a single tap. A few game makers add color blind modes so players can tell teammates from rivals. Sports broadcasts have run into trouble when two teams wore red and green kits, leaving some fans unable to follow the play. After enough complaints, leagues began checking uniform colors ahead of time. These changes did not cost much, and they made the product better for everyone watching. That is the quiet power of designing with the whole audience in mind.
The point here is not that color is bad. Color is useful, and it should stay. The point is that color should never carry the message alone, because a large slice of people cannot rely on it.
